MLA (Military Lending Act)

Also known as: Military Lending Act, MAPR

In one sentence

Federal law capping consumer-credit APRs to active-duty service members and their dependents at 36% (the Military APR, or MAPR).

Full definition

The federal Military Lending Act (MLA) caps the cost of consumer credit extended to active-duty service members and their dependents at a 36% Military Annual Percentage Rate (MAPR). The MAPR is broader than a standard APR: it includes interest, fees, and certain credit-insurance premiums. Lenders are required to check covered-borrower status before extending credit. Get Advance Loan requires its lender partners to comply with the MLA.
